About the ProgramInternews responded to Kenya’s 2008 post-election violence with a project to introduce journalists at a range of community and mainstream radio stations to a conflict sensitive, ethical approach to their work. In early 2010, Internews received additional USAID funding to extend the Land and Conflict Sensitive (LCSJ) program until March 2013. This is allowing Internews to engage with a group of highly targeted media outlets up to and beyond the next Presidential Election. Internews is building the hard skills and capacity of the partner media outlets through a broad package of support that not only deepens conflict sensitive journalism skills, but that provides tailored training for key staff such as news editors and talk-show hosts. The project is also supporting Civil Society and Community Based Organisations to contribute to public debate and develop productive relationships with their local media outlets. The LCSJ program includes a further strand of activities to train journalists on the technical facts around Land conflict, whilst promoting media led debates on land conflicts between different communities and at national policy level. This project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
