Call for Nominations to the Internews Storyfest 2013 Awards.
Internews in Kenya is announcing the ‘Internews Storyfest Awards 2013’. The deadline for the story submission is 31 August, 2013.
The awards aim to celebrate creative, compelling, unique storytelling from Internews alumni of the Health journalism program. There are eight award categories with an overall winner drawn from the category winners.
Eligibility
- Must have been trained or mentored by Internews.
Submission guidelines To submit a story, the following procedure must be followed:
- An entrant/s’ bio not exceeding 300 words must be submitted with the story.
- The story must have been produced by an alumnus of the Health journalism program at Internews in Kenya.
- The story must be published or broadcast by a media outlet or segment that targets Kenyan listeners/readers/viewers
- The story must have been published between September 1, 2012 & August 31, 2013, proof of this should be availed.
- For a co- entry, please state the role of each person.
- A brief summary of any outcomes after publishing/broadcasting.
- Stories in languages other than English and Swahili should be translated.
- Each story can only be entered once.
Selection criteria Stories that do not meet the submission criteria will automatically be disqualified. The jury will score stories on;
- Standard journalism principles of ethics
- Creativity
- Sensitivity
- Clarity
- How compelling the story is
- Possible Impact
[e1] Categories Winners will be awarded in the following categories;
- Best TV Story
Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health.
- Best Radio Story.
Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health.
- Best Print Story
Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health.
- Best online story
Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health.
- Best Data story
Data stories under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health. This category will award one winner in all media.
- Best Long form storytelling
Documentaries under the themes HIV&AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health. This category will award one winner in all media.
- Best Photo story
At least three photos per story under the themes HIV&AIDS, Family Planning, malaria & Maternal and Child Health. This category will award one winner in either print or online media.
- Best story on Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Story
This category will award one winner in all media.
Rules of Entry
- The judges' decision is final. One winner will be selected in each of the eight categories.
- Three finalists in each category will be contacted in advance to let them know that their story is being considered for an Award.
- Should the entries in a particular category fall below the minimum standards the judges reserve the right not to select a finalist
- No responsibility will be taken for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, and incomplete or any other cause outside Internews’s control.
The Prize The three finalists in each award category will receive a fully paid trip to the awards ceremony venue. Last year’s winners will received a trophy an iPad and a certificate. This year’s winners are up for more digital goodies.. The two runners up will each receive a certificate recognizing their achievement. Internews will not pay prize money to the winners.
Deadline The deadline for story submissions is 31 August, 2013
